Back Care Weekend Retreat

These specialist retreats are for anyone who regularly experiences back, neck or shoulder pain and/or discomfort. Taught by Sally Parkes, all classes are designed to help you find a way of moving and exercising your body in a way that will strengthen and stretch the body without exacerbating your existing discomfort.

Furthermore, as all back conditions are individual, Sally will also give each participant advice on how to improve your posture and how to improve tightness or weakness within the body that you may have.

As well as specialised yoga and Pilates for back care, we will explore other techniques to work and release the body. These include tried and tested techniques using physio based therapy using foam rollers, massage balls, small Pilates balls and exercise bands.

How 'Back Care Retreats' developed.....

'I first came to yoga and Pilates in the hope that it would help certain aches and pains I had from teaching aerobics full time and running long distances, and especially my lower back pain which I had on a regular basis. It wasn't long before the aches had completely gone and I developed a strong practice of Vinyasa yoga and Dynamic Pilates. After several years of this much loved practice I found that the back pain came back, but this time the pain was more intense. After several treatments from my osteopath and physio, I realised that I had a slight sideways bend in my lumbar spine and that certain movements that once felt fine, were causing me great discomfort. So again I needed to alter what I was doing with regards to my yoga and Pilates practice. I am now more in tune with what my back care needs on a day to day basis, and as a result have developed a practice that reflects this.

I have since researched yoga and Pilates movements that will help various back conditions so I can help the growing number of clients that approach me to assist them on their personal journey of dealing with back pain and how to move more freely. I am continuing my studies and research alongside several reputable Osteopaths, Physiotherapists and Chiropractors and my ongoing training is with the Iyengar yoga tradition, restorative yoga and the Australian Physiotherapy Pilates Institute'. Before you book a Back Care retreat please take note of the following....

On our Back Care retreats we do not promise to cure your back pain. Whilst your symptoms may improve, the aim of the retreat is to create a supportive and understanding environment for you in which we can put together a gentle exercise therapy program specific to you.

As most exercises will be done on a yoga mat, you will need to have enough mobility to get up and down from the floor to safely attend the retreat.

As all back conditions vary in their severity, we ask that you speak with us first before booking to discuss any concerns you may have and for us to assess your needs. If you are having any medical care for your back at the time of booking, it is also advisable that your check with your doctor that you can safely attend the retreat.

We are of course happy to answer any questions you may have regarding this retreat. Please email Sally at: info@sallyparkesyoga.com
